“Can you tell me who I am? Can you tell me who you are?…”
These are words and pixels… and we try to express our emotions and expressions with them. It is a world without the flesh and blood. You can imagine my sadness by the little verse you call “The status update”… You can feel my joy through a smiling picture…
You think you know me from this world…??? you just have an IDEA of me… you boxed me in a thin glass covered monitor… Can you really tell me who I am? Or can you tell me who you are though this digital cubicle?
We do not feel the presence of air but we are constantly breathing… Just like that we are passing through our life with every moment. Life is simple in a very complex way. This might sound like a paradoxical puzzle but trust me it is not. This puzzle yields different answer even if you finish it or not. And the best part of this journey is “Human Interaction”. And to serve this need we exchange and connect with each other. We represent us as who we are or sometime (or most of the time) not exactly what we really are. We share our experience and expression with others through art/ literature or tweets/ facebook updates… But the raw and face to face human interaction is still the best way to know a person…
It surprises me frequently how people gave more emphasis to their virtual life over the good old face to face human interaction…
I am not telling that the virtual identity is a negative thing. As we are adapting ourselves with technology we are deepening upon this way of communication through Facebook and Tweeter. It is true that these highly efficient modes of human interaction allow us to connect with a large number of people from every corner of the world. But the surprising fact is how people think this virtual representation of a person is the person in real life. Or exactly the same way, the way you representing yourself in this computer generated world is your only identity.
I post picture, i wrote comment or I reply “hahaha…” when some write a joke. That doesn’t prove the fact that your joke is actually funny. May be you can tell me that, who wants to fake a lough can fake it in the real world too. But he or she might do it for once or twice… But third time you will realize if it is a real emotion or not. Because our brain is wired to search out emotions from the face and we gained this ability through millions of year of evolution. But how can you know a person from this Myspace or Facebook profile. As I’ve already said.. you can have an idea of a person but not the real person him/herself.
Life is too sort to live sitting on a cushioned chair and just surfing the world wide web. Please go out.. feel the sun… listen to your favorite song and sing out loud as much as you can. Do not just stalk your crush.. go and say that you like him/her.. and take the rejection like a mature person… And yes, do your share of tweeting and facebooking too… but I will tell you not to judge the people just by what they are in this virtual world…
